Play is central to the lives of children and young people contributing to the development of essential skills that support social, intellectual, physical and emotional well-being, providing a means of connecting with the wider community and critically, providing opportunities for fun and enjoyment.

Derry City and Strabane District Council is committed to fulfilling the child’s right to play as enshrined in Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. 

Following extensive engagement with children, parents, community organisations and partners, this  15 year Play Plan has been developed, establishing a strategic approach to the enhancement of play opportunities across the district.

 The Play Plan has been put together by PlayBoard NI.
