Town centre Business Questionnaire
Derry City and Strabane Council, in partnership with the Department for Communities are planning to take forward an ambitious Public Realm project focused on Strabane Town Centre. The proposed works are located along sections of Abercorn Square, Butcher Street, Castle Place, Castle Street, Church Street, Derry Road, John Wesley Street, Main Street, Market Street, Patrick Street and Railway Street. Derry City & Strabane District Council will be working with the design team and Contractor to deliver the project.
The proposed project will transform this part of the Town Centre by delivering a new high quality public realm that will help to improve dereliction/vacancy rates and increase footfall throughout the town centre.The overall visual streetscape of Strabane town will benefit from these improvements.
We are very keen to get feedback from local businesses to help deliver and shape these projects and would be grateful if you could spend a few minutes to complete the following questions. Your answers will enable us to measure the impact of the projects and your views on this are greatly appreciated.

It is currently estimated that works will commence May 2026 and are expected to last for a period of 18 months.
The primary benefits of the project are listed below:
- The delivery of 8,410 sq. m of high-quality public realm in Strabane Town Centre by late 2027.
- Maintain footfall levels in the town centre, through better links and connection between the edge of town retail developments and the traditional town centre retail core.
- Improved user perception of the physical appearance of Strabane town centre.
- Improve business perception of the physical appearance of Strabane Square.
- Increased visitor numbers to Strabane town centre through improved gateways to the town.
- Improve pedestrian and vehicular movement throughout Strabane town centre
- Decreased traffic congestion and improve the provision of parking.
- Improved biodiversity in town centre through the planting of a significant number of new trees.
