Proposed Leisure Centre in Canal Basin, Strabane
Following public engagement on the proposed facility mix in June-August 2024, Derry City & Strabane District Council have developed plans for the new Leisure Centre facilities which now include a larger 8-Lane Main Pool, at Canal Link, between Derry Road and Dock Street.
The project forms part of the wider £115m Canal Basin regeneration investment and it will provide a new accessible Leisure Centre with an attractive outlook over the wider Canal Basin redevelopment.
The full proposals are uploaded on the Public Access platform, which includes images of the proposed new design.
Throughout May and June 2026, we are inviting members of the public to receive further information and to view the proposed design for the new leisure and well-being facilities, ahead of a planning application being submitted for this facility.
You can provide feedback via the online engagement platform. The questionnaire and feedback forum will be open between Thursday 21 May 2026 and Thursday 25 June 2026.
Derry City & Strabane District Council would be particularly interested in receiving feedback from both current users and non-users of Riversdale Leisure Centre.
We would additionally welcome feedback regarding any particular issues or needs that Council should address to ensure that all sections of the community will use the new centre and its facilities.
